Join us in King's Park for 'The Nature of Learning"

Early Life Foundations and our consultants have been working with WA educators since 2012. We are the sole providers of Walker Learning and now bring you Nature-Based Learning.

Presented by our Specialist Education Consultant, Andrea Cummins has 20 years experience as a Kindergarten Director and 10 years experience developing one of Victoria's first Bush Kinder programs. (Working closely with Kathy Walker, the originator of Walker Learning)

This session provides lots of ideas for taking learning outside, integrating nature and curriculum outcomes and including natural elements in nature-based learning. It continues the philosophy of Walker Learning, developing the whole child through a holistic and personalised pedagogy.

The session includes a guided walk through King’s Park in the morning and a presentation on the nature of learning followed by an afternoon session of practical ways you can start a Nature Play Program back in your own setting.

Discover the importance of allowing children to spend time outside exploring natural environments and how this benefits a child's development. Explore the benefits of allowing children to take risks and how 'risking on purpose' in natural environments can help children develop.

Participants will engage in pedagogical theory on nature play, practical activities, and collaborative learning. They will learn how to establish routines, complete risk-benefit/assessments, resource Bush Kindy and plan outdoor activities that develop creativity.

This inspiring day combines theory and practice exploring the following:

  • The critical role of the natural environment in the lives of young children
  • Practical considerations to set up in your context
  • Question and answer session with an experienced bush kindergarten teacher

This PD is suitable for teachers and educators working with children aged birth to 5 years.
