I am working in Orbost Victoria over the next couple of days with parents and teachers. Have just returned from Horsham. Up to ACT in the middle of the week and up to Sydney and Brisbane next week. I am always so impressed and humbled by the level of committment and energy that so many teachers we work with demonstrate. The work they do with children across early childhood and the primary years helps me to feel there is great hope and promise for children and their future.
If only Julia Gillard would stop taking advice from an American economist on how to best have an education revolution. Studies across the world indicate that meaningul teaching and learning is much more than a test in grade 3 or grade 5.!!!

Hi Kathy or colleagues
Is there any research that suggests primary aged students learn better in the early part of the day?
Would value your expertise

I was told this recently by our AP and I too wondered where she got this info. from.
Learning occurs when all conditions are optimum not just in the morning. Age of the learner comes into it too,

I have a son who has just turned 4 on 25th June this yr.. Between his kinda teachers, and a couple of other people who are teachers and know him well have said that he would be right to go to prep next yr if not for missing the cut off date of the end of April. I attended a couple of info sessions last yr and basically he ticks the 5 points that Kathy spoke about. What should i do - get him assessed, consider a pre prep program, or just send him to Kinda.. My concern is that he needs to be kept stimulated and he can go all day long with out stopping. ANd that if he gets bored i am concerned that his behaviour will go down hill.
