It seems sometimes that childhood is disappearing. Teenage clothing for 4 year olds and exposure to so many adult concepts, it is increasingly hard at times to hold onto giving your child a childhood.
This presentation reflects upon the alarming trends within society that portray young children as teenagers. It provides examples of how lifestyle and expectations are being “pushed down” earlier and earlier with parents being told that to promote a stimulating and meaningful life you have to give your child everything including sleep overs at 3, expensive entertainment birthday parties at 5 and play dates every second day. This presentation gives examples and strategies of the major important aspects of childhood that children most need in their early years. It highlights the importance and richness of play and how learning, life skills self esteem and resilience are all promoted through encouraging and allowing children to play.
