It is wonderful to finally see for the first time in Victoria's history, a framework that encompasses early childhood and the early years of school.
It feels like we are beginning to come out of the wilderness!!
It is pleasing to see the Victorian state government embrace and recognise that learning and development in the early years of preschool and school must embrace active engagement and play as part of the teaching and learning strategies. For too long we followed a path of explicit teaching at the expense of active, explorative learning. Now it appears we have shifted to recognise that successful learning requires both explicit and investigative.
The promotion of a seamless curriculum, continuity between early childhood and early years of school is exactly what is far more likely to promote the most effective transition for children as well as a sound, evidence based practice for effective teaching and learning.
