this Saturday's paper also raises some of the issues in debate about school readiness and starting school. Kathy is quoted saying that it is the quality of the journey of 13 years, not rushing into school. She also warns parents not to be mislead by research which claims there are not advantages in giving children more time if it is recommended by preschool teachers. This research is flawed as it either only measures an academic score at the end of year 12, ( completely ignoring what happened to the child along the way) or uses studies about repeating years in primary or secondary which is a completely and totally different set of issues which cannot be compared with when to actually start a child in school for the first time.
