I am in a world of confusion. In am in WA and they start kindy for 2 full days if they turn 4 by June 30. I think I am the only person in WA who thinks that is too young. My daughter is 3 and turns 4 in May so she started last week. She is a highly sensitive child, a "high needs" child. She enjoyed kindy but at home she has regressed beyond belief. She is having hysterical tantrums, refuses to draw now and says she doesn't like herself. All after the first week. I was already questioning her school readiness and now I am feeling that I did the wrong thing and should defer kindy. Kathy's idea of "What's the hurry?" resonates with me. But the teacher assures me she is ready and seems to believe I would be disadvantaging her by waiting. I think a child needs to wait until they're developmentally ready to start school but everyone else seems to think they need to be thrown in the deep end so they become "ready". I am so confused and I don't know what is right for my child. She has never done day care but is very social - we do lots of dancing and playgroup and gymbaroo etc. She has 2 little sisters so has had to share mum a lot - perhaps too much? But I'm a stay at home mum so I feel I've given her a lot and been fully available to her. I want to keep her home for another year. I just don't know what's right. Surely a child like this would benefit from being the oldest in the class rather than the youngest?
